The protocols implemented within WebTelnet Objects are: Telnet, RCP (also known as Remote Copy), REXEC (Remote Execution), RSH (Remote Shell) and RLOGIN (Remote Login).

Telnet ActiveX Component provides a remote login capability. Once logged in the client on the ASP or HTML page, Telnet passes any keystrokes to the remote system. During Telnet Option negotiation, the Telnet client must specify what type of terminal it is emulating. If you are writing your own emulation above the Telnet protocol you will specify that type. If you are using Telnet for basic communication then you specify that you are a tty terminal. We include Socks proxy support, which means that the Telnet connection may be made through a SOCKS proxy server. |

Rlogin also provides a remote login capability. Unlike Telnet this protocol was originally designed for communication between UNIX system. As such it does not have the complex option negotiation that Telnet has. |

RCP (Remote Copy) allows you to copy files or directories from your web server to a remote system or between two remote systems, right from within your ASP or HTML page. The RCP Object supports recursive file copy and is able to preserve the original time and date attributes of the file. RCP uses communicates with the RSH demon on the remote system and as such must make a connection using a port number in the reserved port range. |

The Remote Execution Object allows you to integrate remote shell (rsh) and remote execution (rexec) capabilities into your web page or application.
- RSH passes a command to a remote host for execution. Both the standard output and errors from that execution are returned to the local host. The RSH command requires that the connecting host is a trusted host on the remote system.
- REXEC is similar in function to rsh but does not require the user to be a trusted host and instead requires a user login and password to be sent to the remote host for verification.

The Remote Execution Object is useful for fast development of applications that control or use a remote UNIX server. For example, an application may remotely start a UNIX script and act on the results. Another may run a SQL command on a Unix server and display the results within a browser. Another yet may upload data to a Unix server and display the results of the processed data.

The Telnet Object may be used to connect to the HTTP port on HTTP servers - allowing you to do many things that you cannot achieve directly through the HTTP protocol. For example it is useful to find out the raw HTTP reply to a command. It can also be used to replicate an HTTP form posted to several servers for data synchronization. |
